Submitting an electricity meter reading.

Meters are read every month, however from time-to-time situations such as a locked gate or a question over the total on your bill mean you’ll need to submit your own reading.

While your bill may have readings for water and/or natural gas, let’s focus on your electrical meter for now.

Reading your electricity meter.

There are two types of meters that are still read manually, one with five or four dials, and one with a digital display.

How to read a meter with dials.

Analog meter

  • Some dials turn clockwise, others counterclockwise.
  • If the pointer is between two numbers, use the lowest number.
  • Mark down the number for each dial.

Digital meters are far easier to read. The display will alternate between two sets of numbers.

  • If the display shows 8888, this means your meter is working.
  • If the display shows Del and then a number (e.g. Del 100 kWh), this is the amount of electricity delivered (Del) to your home.

How to submit your reading?

There are a couple ways to submit an electricity meter reading.

  1. The first and easiest is to take a photo of your meter and email it as an attachment.
  2. You can report your reading online by using our submit a meter reading page.
